The Surroundings
The south-east of Ireland is known for its comparatively mild weather, and is fondly referred to as the 'Sunny South East' by the Irish.
Millvale is situated on the border of County Waterford and County Tipperary.
There are several beautiful walking areas nearby, nice little towns but no tourism to speak of. It is a 30 minute drive to the sea.
Our immediate neighbourhood:
Our house is located in a rural area with a few other houses on a quiet side road. The nearest neighbour is about 200 m away and due to our location off the road and surrounded by trees, the property is almost not viewable. A second, even less busy road runs along the side of the property.
We recommend having a car available on site.
Destinations just minutes away:
Carrick-on-Suir
Approximately 10 minutes by car, it is a small authentic town with supermarkets, a weekly farmers market and several great pubs.
Ormonde Castle
Carrick-on-Suir's main attraction and only rennaissance castle in Ireland.
Rathgormack
Nearby village with notable pub (live music on Fridays), mini shop and hiking centre for access to the Comeragh Mountains.
Coolnamuck East and West
Wooded hills with beautiful walks nearby.
Suir Blueway Tipperary
Well-developed 20 km walking and cycling trail alongside the River Suir combined with a 50 km canoeing and kayaking route. Access in Carrick-on-Suir, with bike and canoe hire available.
Golf courses
There are two beautiful golf courses just a few minutes away:
GAA Sean Curry Park Rathgormack and the Carrick on Suir Golf Club as well as a driving range. Many other courses in all directions.

E.g. Bunmahon, Clonea Beach, Kilmurrin Cove or Tramore Beach.
With their picturesque rock formations and sandy bays, they form the Copper Coast Geopark, a UNESCO Global Geopark.

Comeragh Mountains
A wild and romantic mountain range with many walking trails. It features steep slopes with several waterfalls and a barren plateau with moorland and lakes.
Nire Valley
Lovely valley on the "backside" of the Comeragh Mountains with many hiking trails of varying difficulty, lakes and stunning views. Beautiful not only when the gorse is in bloom.
Waterford
This former Viking settlement is Ireland's oldest city. Now a lively port city and regional centre, it offers visitors museums, shops and parts of the old fortifications that still remain.
Waterford Greenway
45 km flat cycle route on a disused railway line along the coast from Waterford to Dungarvan, including bridges, viaducts and a 400 m tunnel.

Mount Congreve Gardens
Georgian country house with a fantastically landscaped garden including many rare plants and woodland. Can be visited on Thursdays and Sundays.
Slievenamon Bog
A free-standing mountain with numerous hiking trails offering great views of the surrounding area.
Treasure troves just waiting to be discovered
The surrounding area is home to many sites of historical significance, like Carey's Castle, which you can explore at your leisure.
Fethard
A medieval settlement with 90% of its city walls preserved, many churches and towers, and an insider tip: McCarthy's Pub Restaurant and Undertaker (in however order you like ;-).

Medieval complex spectacularly situated on a mountain, ancient coronation site and landmark of Irish history.
Kilkenny
Beautiful town with a well-preserved medieval old town and castle. Also famous for its brewery.

Knockmealdown und Galtee Mountains
Beautiful hiking areas near Cahir.
Cahir Castle
Well-preserved castle on a rocky island in the River Suir with still-functioning defences.
Mitchelstown Cave
Large stalactite cave system where you can book guided tours.
